Old Minehead

In the old days, Minehead consisted of three separate parts: Higher Town, Quay Town and Lower Town, which is nowadays the main shopping area of the sea side town.

The Old Stables is situated in the old Quay Town with history dating back to the eleventh century. Here you will find several picturesque fishermen's cottages nestled against the steep North Hill. The port is a popular site for visitors and receives calls from the Balmoral and Waverley steamers during the summer season.

In the Higher Town you will find a number of old thatched cottages and the picturesque Church Steps leading to the 14th century St. Michael's Church. The bell ringers meet here every Friday evening and welcome visitors who wish to learn about the tradition of church bell ringing.

If you are a fan of music, Blenheim Garden - next door to The Old Stables - is well worth a visit on summer weekends when it hosts various outdoor concerts. Minehead has also an active theatre - The Regal Theatre Minehead where you can enjoy drama, ballet, contemporary dance and music performances.
